To manage the Sutton Fen reserve to achieve conservation objectives, including overseeing and further developing a programme of survey and monitoring to complement existing species, habitat and site knowledge. Sustainable management of the fen (RSPB owned and additional areas currently managed under agreement) will be achieved through grazing using Highland cattle, coordination of fen cutting by contractors including restoration of former sedge beds and cutting to benefit colonies of nationally important fen orchid and maintain the internationally important plant and invertebrate assemblages. The role will also involve management for breeding crane and bittern through restoration of former ponds, extensive scrub removal and control of terrestrial predators. Applicants will ideally need experience of managing Highland cattle and of managing species rich wetland habitats. Good identification skills of a range of taxa including moths, plants and birds as well as a willingness to learn will be essential.
Salary: £17,000 - £19,000 pa
