White rhino calf born in Nairobi National Park08/11/2009 11:52:52
White rhino calf born in Nairobi National Park. Credit Will Knocker From Will Knocker of Silole Sanctuary. This female white rhino must be astonishingly tough as this cow was translocated into NNP barely 2 months ago........thank goodness they both survived! It is also fortuitous timing as the park is greening up a little after the rain providing plenty of grass for the rhinos! The rhinos were moved into the park from Nakuru at the end of August. We believe that this is probably the first white rhino calf ever born in Nairobi National Park, as they have not hisorically lived in the area. This brings in to question why KWS (Kenya Wildlife Service) has relocated the animals here at all. Could it be that tourists like to see rhinos, but black rhinos are notoriously shy and difficult to find and see, but white rhinos are often found grazing in the open.
